Ifmy understanding of tire ratings are correct, it does actaully increase the diameter of the tire also. 235/40 means 235mm wide tires with 40% of that size sidewalls, so 94mm sidewalls. The 225/40 still have the same ratio there fore they are not only narrower but slightly smaller, 90mm sidewalls.
